DEPARTEMENTAL BRETON MUSEUM
The Breton departmental museum is installed since 1911 in the Palace of the Bishops of Cornwall, the most remarkable monument of Quimper after the cathedral to the south of which it is built.
It was one of the first museums in France, from the years 1860-1870, to be interested in regional ethnography and popular arts. The collection that began then, and continues, makes this museum the main conservatory of history, ethnography and regional arts of Finistère.
The Breton departmental museum invites you to a journey of two centuries in the history of this familiar tradition and identity that represents the Breton costume, through a completely renewed presentation.

Jean Painlevé, feet in the water
02/07th to 05/30th/2026
Jean Painlevé (1902-1989), an internationally renowned filmmaker, revolutionized scientific documentaries by combining educational rigor and artistic audacity. Close to the avant-gardes of the interwar period, he uses cinema as a tool for exploring life, alternating between real and microscopic views to reveal the invisible.
His work, shown in film clubs and avant-garde venues, is captivating by its non-conformist approach and its affinity with surrealism. Collaborating with major figures like Calder, Léger or Vigo, Painlevé blurs the boundaries between science and art, offering films that are both informative and poetic
