MUSEE DES BEAUX ARTS QUIMPER
RAOUL DUFY (1877-1953), THE ROARING TWENTIES
Until 07 September 2020
Raoul DUFY (1877-1953) is one of the most important French artists of the 20th century. Painter, draughtsman, ceramist, fabric designer, decorator, he was able, like Gauguin, to abolish the boundaries between major art and minor art. The exhibition at the Quimper Museum of Fine Arts presents about three hundred works from a particular collection.
The paintings and drawings highlight the themes that are dear to Dufy: the sea, the regattas, the music and the festive parties with bright colors. He collaborated with the famous couturier Paul Poiret and the company Bianchini-Férier, one of the main silk houses in Lyon.
About twenty dresses and sixty fabrics give a glimpse of the boldness and correctness of the finds that have largely fueled the inventiveness of the great couturiers of the Roaring Twenties.
